Families
Your child’s, family’s or school’s creative and intellectual labor is what makes this work possible. Your rights and privacy are the North star for my practice. Even in the world of ubiquitous media, it’s ethically and pedagogically important to teach our children about their boundaries and rights.
If you would like to submit your child’s quotes or artwork please obtain their consent (assent). Children regularly model good social justice leadership and civic-minded behavior. Providing the accurate reasoning, in this case, why their artwork might be shared with a larger audience is important.
One option is to let them know that them sharing their artwork would build on my (the author’s) work and make difficult talks and conversations about skin color normal in everyday life and. They also challenge dominant and often misleading narratives. Note: Caregivers are encouraged to submit photos that reveal only partial, if at all, children’s faces.
